Stoke Green Hockey Club (SGHC) - Match Report - SGHC 5 - 1 Wallingford
SGHC hosted Wallingford HC in their Thames Div 1 league fixture. Wallingford started the match at a high tempo forcing SGHC to defend deep. However much against the run of play SGHC scored the opener through Amandeep singh, with Yuvraj singh providing the assist. Wallingford continued to press but were 2-0 down through a text book short corner routine with Jaysal Benwara firing a shot across the goal with Jitpal Singh deflecting into the Wallingford goal.
The balance of the 1st half saw SGHC taking control of the game but failed to add to the early openers. The 2nd half saw Wallingford again starting strongly but failing to convert their pressure mainly due to fine defensive play from Jassi Benwara and Sardara Dhoot and excellent goalkeeping saves from Aran Dhak. As with the 1st half SGHC scored 2 more goals coming again from Jasyal and Jitpal against the run of play. Even though the game was beyond them, Wallingford continued to press and was rewarded with a goal from a short corner. But shortly after SGHC put the game out of reach with another goal from Jaysal following a through pass from Gurdip Benwara. SGHC next game is a top of the table clash with Newbury HC in 2 weeks.
